Every week, we get calls on our customer service line (602-327-6560) from folks interested in purchasing our vertical hanging gardens.
We try to jot down the types of questions that are asked to see if there are specific questions frequently being asked. Well, we compiled some of these questions from recent months in the post here.
We hope these answers to questions about creating your own vertical hanging garden will help you in your backyard gardening pursuits!
- What are these vertical hanging gardens?
Our patented vertical-garden system is a gardening option that puts your garden at separate levels, from near the ground to eye-level. This gives you the option to tend to various plants, vegetables, and flowers in each of the hanging units. Your garden is equipped with a water misting or irrigation system.
- How does the vertical hanging garden get installed?
Our vertical gardens are either installed by either having them bolted onto an outdoor wall or hung over a wall. This provides easy gardening access by using your existing space. A vertical garden wall makes gardening more enjoyable, safe, and efficient, and also saves space by putting walls and fences already in your yard to work.
- What location is best for my hanging vertical garden?
The best location in your backyard for a vertical garden is both an aesthetic decision (where it will look the best), as well as a gardening decision (where your garden might receive the best daylight sources without overheating the plants).
If you have questions, send some photos and an email to us, and we can help assess where the garden will work best for you.
- How many tiers should I get?
Flower Street Urban Gardens offers you standard packages with 1-5 tiers for wall gardens; it’s all about how much gardening you plan to do! We recommend starting with a 3-tier garden. Having three tiers not only gives you gardening flexibility, but it also centers on most walls giving you a good amount of volume with a pleasing aesthetic.
- How do I measure if I have the right space to get started?
Measure the overall height and the overall length. Then, based on these numbers, you can select the number of tiers and the overall length. Keep in mind; our patented vertical gardening system is modular – custom sizes are available upon request.
- How do I measure the distance from the top of the wall?
The space between the top of the wall and the start of the highest tier is what we refer to as ‘the drop.’ Most residential fences are about 6 ft. high. Our standard drop is 12” to put the first garden at the 5ft level for easy access.
So when ordering your vertical garden, you will want to measure the overall height of the wall/fence, then measure down from the top of the fence to where you would like the first tier to start. That will be your drop.
- How much maintenance is there?
Our maintenance-free gardens require as much or as little attention as you want to give them. Some plants or vegetables will require pruning; other flowers may need the water that comes from the irrigation system.
